HOW’S THE WIND?

Nananu-i-Ra, the windiest place in Fiji!

Nananu-i-ra island sits within the Vatu-i-ra passage and is a wind tunnel for our regular and consistent trade winds. Every year, from April to November, without fail, the wind blows a steady 15-25k from the south west. Trade winds are known for their reliability and consistency, making them ideal for activities like sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, and wingfoiling.

The usual pattern of wind is 9 days of consistent winds followed by and 2-3 days of lighter winds. There is often a slight variation of wind throughout the day, swinging from mornings southerly, to the S.E. 9am swing, which is why having a local guide and unlimited professional boat support during your stay is key to getting the maximum time out on the water!

The main beach in front of the Wind Sports Fiji Lodge is suitable for Windsurfing, Kitesurfing and Wing Foiling on all tides. High tide offers deeper waters closer to shore and more choppy conditions, whilst low tide offers a long stretch of shallow water reaching the barrier reef, and much smoother waters tucked in behind the reef. We cater for beginners by taking them by our safety boat to the best locations to learn. It is recommended that riders are able to stay upwind and turn with ease. We will advise you on the coral free sandy deep water access that don’t require any paddling to start your foiling sessions.

When you stay with Wind Sports Fiji you can go out no matter what the tide! Your guides have 30+ years experience in this spot and are the only accommodation provider that offers daily professional boat support and unlimited coaching tips whilst on the water - so that you can progress fast and get the most out of your time on the island.
